This tutorial is written for PSP 7 but I heard it does work out at other versions :-)
(thnx Laura).
You need to have more than a good knowledge of re-installing logo files in case you want to have the original logo re-installed!
Don't forget to save your work often!
To get the materials you will need, download this zip here.
Zipfiles include: the picture shown, XrX and Tucows program.
Please download without a Download Manager that won't work...
At the XrX file is a great file that explains the program.
Or, download each one individually:
XrX here.
You also can use this program to install it the easy way. It is shareware.
Desktop Themes from Tucows here
this is also shareware.
The size for a logo is always 320x400, 256 colors, bmp.
Ready? Well lets go!
I will explain how you can use XrX at the end of this tutorial.
Open new canvas 640x400, transparent. Don't start with 320x400. The picture will
"strech" if you use it and become very ugly! After making it the way you want
you need to resize it to 320x400.
Open the picture you want to use. Or make your own creation.
I used this picture. Click at picture and after that "rightclick" to download.
If you are using an existing picture use one that is large enough, one that won't
get ugly after resizing it to 640x400.
Selections/Select all at your canvas.
Copy the picture you want to use and go back to your canvas.
Edit/Paste/Into Selection.
Look at your picture is it looking ok?
Colours/Decrase Colour Depth/256 Colours.
This is the way the picture will look like:
Image/Resize.
You picture will look strange, like this:
But that's OK.
Save your picture as a BMP file. This is important! Only as BMP it will work.
Install logo using XrX.
Notice! If you want to save the original logoscreen(s) you have, save the logo.sys
file from C:/ (root directory) and the logos.sys and logow.sys from C:/Windows.
Logo.sys is the Startup Screen
Logow.sys is the Waiting Screen
Logos.sys it the Shutdown Screen
Open XrX.
This is how it looks:
Click at "load" and search the picture you have made.
You can play a bit with the colors to animate and look at the preview.
To install your logo click at the "install" button.
You can choose when you want to use it.
Click Ok and the logo is installed.
